Last weekend out on a run my steering was pulling to the right and my battery wasn't charging.
Clive, Paul and myself deduced that it was the track rod end on the OS So I booked it in at my local garage Balmuir up the road Long story short...
Track rods changed tracking done.... No change!!!! turns out it's my steering rack. This was only changed 4 years ago by Chester Sports cars, turns out however they fitted a reconditioned rack WHEN I PAID FOR A NEW ONE!!!!
also Pete found I have a fracture on both my chromed lower suspension arms that will not pass an MOT (happy days)!
So after paying £190 for the pleasure of changing my TR ends and 4 wheel alinement, Oh and my fan belt needed changing that's why my battery was not charging I now need to get a another new Rack!!
Not impressed at all with CSC.. another nail!!
Trev.

Sorry to hear that Trev, did the people at Balmuir not know it wasn't the track rod ends before they changed them,we are not mechanics they should know whether the track rod end had gone or not, and found the other problems first, unless the ball joints had play in them. As for CSC I think a visit or phone call would be in order. Clive. P.S.will you have it ready for Sunday.

Firstly Trev, it's always been my experience that play in steering is 90% down to the ends...wear in a rack is only evident once perfect ends are in place, too...it would be hard to spot it without fitting the ends first. They looked like they were worn anyway. Why not place a comment on our Fbook page about this...will then give me the opportunity to complain about my bonnet needing respray too!

This is what I have decided. Rick thanks for the offer but your rack is only for your car mine is a MK2 Escort with modified arms. Paul the o/s had a small amount of play but not much they are after all only 4 years old as was the Rack!
So the Bodywork is now on the back burner as all the money saved will be going on the front end after spending £200 so far I will need to get a new rack from Tiger £175. New 4 pot Hi Spec calipers discs and pads.£400 front suspension arms removed lower arms repaired then sent off to be re-chromed in Leeds at the same time my new grill and headlight brackets chromed £350 Front Spax shockers refurbished and powder coated £100 then all put back together 4 wheel alinement again and corner balancing £500.
So I will be £1700 lighter in 4 weeks time. not funny best get standing on that street corner again!

Are you sure you want the Hi-Specs, I don't find them any better than the std calipers apart from the bling factor. Also make sure they'll fit inside your rims, I think the smallest you can go with the sierra fitment is 14"

Just get your stoneguards and front cycle wings resprayed...they are most in need, and would make a huge difference with all the other work you're doing..? Get the tub, bonnet, cone and body done later....and Tony may be right on the brakes. Get some vented new disks with green stuff pads. Oh...and thanks for not taking the piss out of Wales v England.

Thanks for that Ade but the lower ball joints are modified on mine so off the shelf ball joints will not fit

Flippin eck Trev, those are real stress fractures and if same both sides shows that something is putting undue strain on them. I would ask the garage can they see anything else that might be wrong.
Personally I would be looking at the front chassis mountings for alignment etc
