Symonds Yat is in the wrong direction. Lovely part of the world, but we'd end up driving back towards Birmingham..... I have been able to cancel four rooms at the Copthorne...but not a cheap one I got, at £84. So, Pat and I will now be staying there anyway.no way am I forking out £84 cancellation fee! What that's ridiculous how can they charge that you booked it today you cancelled today!!!!!! even if it was next week you cancelled it's still three months away sorry feller but that's not legal there should be a 14 day cancellation clause they cannot charge this as you have given MORE than a reasonable time for them to rent the room out most hotels if not all have a 50% refund if its within the last seven days before arriving Three MONTHS FFS
Demand your money back or very bad publicity!!!

We'd booked Miskin Manor for Easter visit...and Booking.com won't let me cancel or alter the date for the Copthorne online...which would have been the solution you suggest, Clive. I booked this room at a cheap rate, for Trev as a single, not realising it had a non-returnable cancellation fee. Bollox.....I managed to cancel the other rooms, no problem. I'll ring Booking.com tomorrow (if I can find the tel.number). After all..it is three months away yet.....as Trev says.

Contacting the hotel was my first move. They wouldn't /couldn't cancel, as it had been booked online through Booking.com I then managed to cancel all but one room online...as it's a special rate I cannot move the date, either...so am stuck, unless I can find Booking.com's telephone number and argue the case...
Merthyr is at the head of a valley, and its only saving grace is that the views are good in tbe daytime. Having said that, I wouldn't want to stay there for a few reasons..... It also means we'd miss the Rhigos road....
Fear not, I'll sort something.....

I have booked us into the following: New House Country Hotel, Caerphilly for the Friday night. It's out of the way, and I'm assured is very secure. Splendid views. The Glynhir Estate, Ammanford, for Saturday night. They really are looking forward to seeing the cars..and will offer photo opportunities. It's an unusual farm, and the food is home made..Bike clubs and car clubs use it in readiness for one of the best driving roads in Wales which we will take the next morning!! Just to whet your appetite.....
Over the two nights, the combined cost will be £230 for doubles and £200 for singles. B & B..this looks like it could be even cheaper when the first hotel confirms. Cardiff area is expensive, unless you want a modern basic hotel with little secure parking...so I have balanced out a 4* in Caerphilly with a cheaper one in Ammanford to even out the costs.
I will advise the route...even supply it as a Tyre Garmin or Tomtom satnav route if required.....which will involve roads via mid Wales to Brecon, the Beacons, Rhigos, Rhondda valley to Caerphilly. Lots of good roads, twisty, some high views and dramatic drops...and huge numbers of people gawping at us. .."Ooo..there's lovely...."
Saturday is St f*gans Museum up to lunchtime, (a really good open air museum, with an Elizabethan Manor House), then across the Vale of Glamorgan to the Mumbles at Swansea for tea, (lovely country roads and the dramatic Swansea Bay)...and then up to Ammanford.
Sunday will be from Ammanford to Aberaeron, up the coast to Aberystwyth all via a great set of driving roads, and beyond......route depending on time.....
Friday mileage c 180 -190 Saturday mileage c 90 - 100 Sunday mileage c 180- 190 A total,of 450 - 480 miles, allowing for detours, etc. Plenty of time each day to stop for Trevor to eat, coffees, photos, views, etc.
Just pray for good weather. It's Wales after all......
To be discussed at Car club.......

Thanks fellas. My final understanding is that there are three couples, and Trevor. I have booked three doubles and two single rooms (double with single occupancy), so unless anyone else now confirms by Monday that they definitely want to come, I'll cancel the second single room...leaving rooms for Clive, Tony, Trevor, and myself only...assuming Dave or Chris can't make it.
One other thing...there will be the usual "support vehicle" so there is room for your luggage, tools, etc.
