:-/hi all took car out for first burst this sunday down a59 to clitheroe and back . ocasional black smoke on decellerting, and popping , and tick over a bit stumbling. i thing mixture is a bit rich, because when i took plugs out they were a bit sooty. can anyone tell me if the correct idle setting should be when the throttle plates are just infront of first progression hole,or just covering first progression hole, or fully closed. and also the amount of turns on idle mixture screws from closed for best idle. my carbs are 45,s 152 with three progression holes . its times like this i hate about carbs.

Just consulted my Webber tuning book and it says no progression holes should be in operatioon at idle and suggests 7/8ths to 1 1/2 turns out on idle screws. Gonna book mine for a rolling road session and leave it to them that know.
