Hi guys, possible spanner in the works with regards getting a Tiger. Had a look at one with a Pinto engine, and I couldn't believe how low the sump is?? Are speed bumps a problem, as there are loads near me? And are Tigers ride heights different, or all the same, and do Zetecs have better clearance?
I don't want to give up on the idea, but it's got me worried, anyone else have to contend with speed bumps?

Hi Matie,
You shouldn't have a problem if you make sure you get an engine with a short sump fitted my Zetec has a ERA sump fitted from Tiger this gives me plenty of clearance if you read some of my other posts you see I ripped a hole in my sump just by going over some pot holes resulting in a new engine!
Hard lesson to learn.

Cheers Trev, although that hasn't really reassured me.:-( The only option, but not sure if it'd help, how about making a sump guard, to deflect the force abit?

Your welcome, however its not necessary to have a guard if its a short sump is fitted its high enough, all of us with 7 stile cars just have to be a little careful when it comes to speed bumps the only speed bumps I have to be careful of are the semi bridge (the ones that allow the wheels go either side) you just put one wheel over the hump all the rest are ok. Don't let this put you off.
A few questions for you truedriving. Where are you based? what's your name (truedriving is a bit impersonal) and do you wish to have a a ride in my super 6?
Regards Trev.

Sorry Trev, picking online names I've always been useless at. Lol I'm Paul from wonderful Birkenhead, so a detachable steering wheel might be a must too, haha. :-) I think the main thing that you could help me with, if you guys ever plan a meet, maybe you could give me advice on what to look for when buying? I'd love to take a spin with you, what are you running in your Tiger, do you know what it is putting out?

Hi all , I had my sump holed a while ago I now have a sump guard ,made it myself . Won't get caught out again . Have a look at some old posts for pics . Its about 4in clearence on the sump so like trev said you have to be careful .I've found that the full road humps can be crossed if you go at an angle ,not staight at it graham

Hi Paul, as said above it's not really a problem as long as you're aware and take a bit of care

Cheers guys, sorry for the delayed reply just been busy. On a good note I'm seriously close to buying a Tiger, my only concern now is I'm keeping it at another garage, should I chain it down, and it's a Pinto so do I just take the distributor off? I just want to keep it safe!
Are Kit Cars targeted, or am I just being paranoid?
But back to the car, just the sound alone makes me want to buy it, if I did get it I wouldn't mind paying to go through the Mersey Tunnel! ;-)

I went down the route of a removeable steering wheel also they are quite hard to start sometimes . I have been through the tunnel its a great sound even with a helmet on . You could do all you said and maybe a wheel clamp as well .

Depends how much time you want to spend rebuilding it everytime you want to go out, putting the dizzy, steering wheel, wheels, reconnecting the battery etc.I dont want to sound negative i was the same with mine, with it not being on the doorstep and not being able to keep an eye on it all the time but i think as Graham said probably the best solution is the removable steering wheel. Also i don't remember the last time i heard of a kit car being stolen, a seven type car tends to stand out a bit unlike a Focus or Astra!
Dont get too paranoid about it BUY IT and ENJOY IT

Big eye bolt in the floor and a hefty chain and padlock around a chassis rail although as Neil says never heard of one being pinched.Removable steering wheel also makes getting in a bit easier although make sure it's a good one- several stories one locost forum about wheels coming off while driving Tony
