Had a close shave today in my tin top, i bought a mondeo st tdci a couple of weeks back (company car has gone back) (i fitted a tow bar to it as it will be ideal for towing the tiger), was taking the missus son to newtown today with a bike trailer attached to pick up his motorbike, was driving along around 55mph and all of a sudden the ns rear dipped, it felt like the road was subsiding, was one hell of a peculiar feeling so i backed off the throttle and it run along normal again, as soon as i put my foot back on the throttle the back ns wheel locked and sent me skidding down the road with the arse end snaking about, a few eratic heart beats later i got the car to a stop into the left side of the road, got out to see what had happened, the trailing arm was snapped clean in two and the wheel was wedged into the rear inner wing. If it wasnt for the trailer i would have probably been going quite a bit faster and the outcome would have been a lot worse as it was on a main road into newtown at rush hr!!!! Anyway called a recovery truck as it couldnt be driven and got it home tonight. I stripped the trailing arm off ready to replace with the new one i am picking up tomorrow, looking at the break, 60% of the break must have happened a long time ago at it had surface rust on it and the last 40% was shiny, how the hell did it get through the mot like this? when i bought the car it had a new mot on it You can see on this pic the surface rust

Picked up the replacement part this morning, looking at them side by side the one that broke was already bent prior to it breaking. It looks like some idiot who owned the car previously had jacked the car up right on the trailing arm , this obviously bent it and cracked it and then the last bit broke yesterday. At least i now know what caused it. Anyway fitted the replacement and all is good again.
