HELP! My Pinto has developed a lazy starter motor. It definitely needs replacement, as it refuses to budge sometimes, and it sounds like I have a flat battery, but I don't! I like the sound of a high torque one, even f twice the price....but would ANY hight torque model do?? Is there more than one?

There's a few different makes, Hi Torque, Brise, Wosp but I don't know much about them. I think Graham fitted one to his pinto

Hi Paul , the problem I found was the front bush had worn and the shaft was jamming up . I went for a H Torque starter it was a powerlite make, RAC110A ( 10 tooth ) to match the 135 toothed ring gear on fly wheel .
Uses half the power of a standard motor .

Hi P , you count the teeth on the starter cog 10 or 12 . Then match it up , thats what I did .

Thanks to God Almighty...in the shape of Graham. I ended up getting the same Powerlite one. Had to trim a corner to get in, but all working well. Car starts. Runs, but hates to be re-started when hot. Still, as long as I can leave it ticking over tomorrow morning at Skip Brown's, I'll see you there.
