Hi Paul , was thinking about the layout of your car and it dosen't appear to be standard ,see pic of a car I found off FB . The haeder tank is at the back of the engine infront of the battery. PS to post a pic from other site you have to use the URL address of that pic . Graham

Well, it's at tbe same height, and worked perfectly well before I removed the old rad. I blew into the header tank, keeping the bleed screw out, with the engine ticking over, until a) I almost fainted from lack of oxygen, and b) nothing but water was coming out of the bleed hole. I reinserted the screw..at least now the top of the rad was hot. The temp gauge just kept climbing, so I bled more, blew more... Still the fan wouldn't come on.. So...I'm ruling out the pump..as water is getting around. I will now change the thermostat in the block, and the fan switch unit at the top of the rad next to the bleed screw...it just HAS to be one or the other?? Trev and I got the fan working by shorting the switch at the top of the rad...so the fan motor works..it's just not getting a signal to come on.... If not, I will look for a twelve foot length of rope, a strong beam, and a stick of dynamite for the car.

Have you taken the fan switch out ? Is there water there ? Also could you move the header tank to behind the rocker cover as in the pic I put up ?

This is the front end on my car . The blue pipe comes from the thermostate housing to the top of the header tank . I have a big pipe from the bottom of the header going down to the bottom hose of the rad . The black pipe did go to the heater and the other side of the heater went to the inlet manifold , these are both gone now , the pipe from the water pump is blocked off and the inlet plate is solid ( no hole ) . Why is your header tank in that pos Paul ? G W

Hi G... No, the fan switch in the top of the rad is still there...I took it from the old rad...but have a new one coming from Tiger tomorrow or Tuesday. I could move the header...it's worked fine until now, and is held by brackets at a high point which would be no different if I moved it back?

Hi Paul when we went on our grand tour of Scotland I took my thermostat out so it didn't run as hot then put a new one in afew weeks later, as you need to cut the thermostat in half and keep the half with the seal and put back in, also you could have a faulty sensor for the gauge, I had this trouble once and CSC fitted me another one because Duncan had to solder an earth wire into the switch[sensor] as it doesn't come with one. All now seems OK The stat works fine. The rad is new. I changed the fan sender switch on the radiator for a new one, bled the system while 'blowing' water through from the header tank, with the bleed screw open, until just water was coming through. The system now works. The fan comes on when the operating temperature goes just over normal, and brings the system back to a normal temperature.
So..I replaced a leaky radiator, but the issue afterwards was a faulty sender (which I took from the old rad). Once I put a new one in, the fan worked.....So my cooling problems are solved. Now it's to be booked into my Porsche specialist for a new floor pedal set to be fitted..I'll cure the d**ned clutch cable issue for good

It's now just the pedal box..which I will put into the safe and competent hands of Unit 11 Porsche specialists, who have always looked after my Boxster and 911. A couple of cosmetic jobs afterwards..but nothing that would stop me getting out and about..
