What cable are you using now paul? I take it your running a pinto with a type 9 gearbox?

The cable was made to measure by Cabletech (good company), who are upset it's broken. Yes, it's a Type 9 5 speed. I don't know whether the cable should be off a Sierra, Escort, or Capri... So it's back to CableTech.....and a check by ChesterSportscars. Graham has also advised I get a couple of throttle cables off him...fingers crossed, fellas...

I had set aside Weds to change oil, water, check tyre pressures, get tools into support car, etc... My clutch cable not yet ready, and my handbrake needs adjusting on the rear disc conversion to pass the MOT. Lights adjusted fine..no other issues. I just need reassurance on my clutch cable, and will get it checked by Graham at C /Sportscars. He also suggests I get a few spare throttle cables off him.... If all goes well, and I can be reassured about what was wrong, and why...I'll test it again....and keep every part of my anatomy crossed. Talk about lastminute.com

I replaced my clutch cable when I bought the car, it felt like it was catching. I think the choice was a standard Sierra or a Cosworth, I think I bought the Cosworth as it was supposed to be slightly longer than the Sierra one. All been fine since. Where is it breaking Paul? Quadrant end, gearbox end or somewhere between the two? C

Quadrant end, Chris. I had a fairly new standard Sierra one, which snapped on the way back from Cholmondeley POP...replaced by tailor-made one from CableTech...which snapped on Sunday. Going to try standard Sierra one again......maybe the Cosworth one would then be worth trying when this bugger snaps.. Getting depressed about it, as I can't see any reason for this..the fitting and curve were perfect...on a floor mounted system, it didn't have to go near the exhaust, and was not chafing, bent, kinked, or badly fitted.

Mine is a top mounted pedal set so maybe the issues are different Stupid question but is the cable in line with the quadrant, it's not a case of the 'wearing' as it has to move slightly side to side to line up with the groove in the quadrant is it? Or is the quadrant not working properly and trying to over tighten the cable? Good luck, sure you will get to the root of the problem in the end...... C

Well I hope to be there, all depends on what time this seatbelt is delivered and when I've finished putting it back in the seat etc.
The Mrs's won't be happy if she cant have her car back and no roof down in this weather.
Like I say, free all day Tuesday.
